Should Your Baby Take a Nap on the Baby Swing?

Sep. 16, 2020

If you have a baby at home, how much do you know about baby products? Cribs, changing tables, toys...Why does such a small person need so many things?

This is an equipment that most parents are very familiar with: Baby Swings. Do you have one of them? If so, then you will immediately understand how good it is to put your baby tightly on the swing, turn it on, and walk away as your little baby sways gently to sleep.

Of course, your baby may not like swings. Not every baby is! However, if you have a swing lover at home, you may have put your baby on the swing for at least a few naps. After all, for babies, a nap is often the busiest time of the day, and many parents have reached the point where they are willing to try anything to make taking a nap easier.

But is this a good idea? Should you let your baby take a nap on the swing? This is the topic we are going to address today.

Safety first: No long sleep or unsupervised sleep on the swing

Convenience is very important to parents, but our baby's safety is the top priority. So, first of all, let us solve the safety problem of letting the baby sleep on the swing.

Baby Swing Bed

Baby Swing Bed

This is a general rule to remember: it is not safe to let your baby sleep on a swing for long periods of time, especially when left unattended. Sitting upright for long periods of time (for example, on a swing or in a car seat) may make it difficult for babies to breathe well, which increases the risk of SIDS.

For these reasons, it is best not to let your baby sleep on a swing at night. However, it is considered safe to take a supervised swing nap during the day (provided that you tie the baby tightly to the swing and do not put any loose blankets, pillows or stuffed animals on the swing with the baby. )

Baby Swing Bed can be used as a good tool for soothing furry babies

However, we don't want to give everyone the impression of swinging insecurity, not at all! If used correctly, it can be a great tool to soothe irritable babies and provide parents with some much-needed peace. This is especially true during the first few weeks when a newborn baby falls asleep. Use a swing to cope with the unstable sleep patterns of newborns.

We have discussed before how to shake the baby to sleep, or keep the baby in his arms will backfire. This may become a habit of the baby, and soon you will find that she will not feel satisfied with being shaken (or hugged) every time she sleeps. The same goes for the nap on the swing. If your baby is often shaky, you may find that he will not take a nap elsewhere. At that point, you may start to feel that the baby rocker is causing more problems than it solves!

Our suggestion: start the way you want to continue

It is a good thing to keep in mind when using a baby swing. Similarly, it can be a good tool to eliminate your baby's cranky thoughts, but it is not the tool you want to use in all (or even most) baby naps.

On the contrary, we recommend that you fundamentally solve the problem of your baby's nap and work hard to solve these problems instead of using the swing as a "band-aid" solution. If your baby is struggling during a nap and has passed the four-month mark, then you can try sleep training.
